PYELOPLASTY

Image showing an obstruction at the junction of the kidney and the ureter causing obstruction to the flow of urine.A pyeloplasty is a procedure to correct a pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction.

PUJ obstruction is a condition where urine can’t drain normally from the kidney into the ureter (pictured).

During a pyeloplasty, the diseased portion of the PUJ is removed and the healthy ureter is rejoined onto the kidney.

Pyeloplasty can be performed:

  • Laparoscopically – minimally invasive ‘key-hole’ surgery via multiple small incisions.
  • Open – via a single larger incision.
  • Robotically  – with the assistance of the Da Vinci robotic surgical system.

At Brisbane Urology Clinic, our urologists are experts in the management of PUJ obstruction with pyeloplasty.
